DOWLING CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Renovation of the existing dormitory building will begin in October 2009. The project will be in four phases: kitchen, dining area, dorms, and showers/restrooms.
The kitchen project includes installing a new range hood, covering the walls, install a drop ceiling, and building a new wall to close off the kitchen from the dining area.
Air conditioning ducts and units will be installed for the entire building, and the framework for drop ceiling panels.
The dining area project will be a “Scouter” effort to cover the interior walls with cement board and plasterboard, and to install the drop ceiling panels.
New windows will installed in the dormitory section of the building, and Scouters are asked to help install the cement board and plasterboard wall covering, and to install the drop ceiling panels.
The final interior phase will be the installation of new shower stalls and toilets.
Part of the improvement plan is the purchase of “temporary outdoor housing units” that can be attached to the air conditioning units.
Also in the plan is a covered deck to be placed on the river side of the dining area.
The final phase will be the Centennial Tree Plant. Each pack, troop, crew, and post will be asked to provide and plant one tree at Dowling in celebration of the Centennial of the Boy Scouts of America.
