1925– Minor Huffman, first Scout executive, with unknown Boy Scout, in the old Wehinahpay lodge.
Minor Huffman organized the Southeast New Mexico Council, and started Camp Wehinahpay, first camping at Pine Lodge, then in the Ruidoso area, and finally locating and purchasing the Calkins Ranch and adjoining property to create today’s Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.
“We-hi-nah-pay” means “The place where the morning sun gathers.”
